My
Cancer Trek
aka
The Tokyo Roast

On 11/10/06, at age 59,  I found that I had       prostate cancer.
As the most common cancer in men, it kills 15% of those who get it.
My case, a most uncommon one, led me to Tokyo.
I hope my story can help others.

It is packing time.  We have to be at the airport by 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.  The flight goes from Tampa to Dallas and then on to Tokyo.  The trip will take us a little over 19 hours.  We’ll be met at the airport by Emi Maruyama, a student who lived with us five years ago.

The next day will be onto Kyoto and then Nara for three days of vacation time before heading to the hospital.  We will be in the hospital for five days.  Mary Anne will be staying there with me.  In Japan nurses only do medical tasks. You are expected to have a family member there for personal care.  The HIFU procedure is on March 8th.  We will spend a couple of days in Tokyo with Emi after leaving the hospital and fly home on the 12th.

And so our little adventure begins.  Wish me luck.  The next entry will be coming from Japan.
