My
Cancer Trek
aka
The Tokyo Roast

On 11/10/06, at age 59,  I found that I had       prostate cancer.
As the most common cancer in men, it kills 15% of those who get it.
My case, a most uncommon one, led me to Tokyo.
I hope my story can help others.

Surprise Tuesday not Thursday

We were sitting with Dr. Uchida on that first meeting discussing the procedure and he was periodically stopping to make or receive calls.  I was surprised by how relaxed I felt.  But it was only Monday and the operation wasn’t until Thursday.  Lots of time to do some reading and get some work done.

The calls he was making were in Japanese so I had no clue what they were about.  Margie did have an idea but held off on saying anything.  All of a sudden Uchida told us that the operation would be tomorrow, Tuesday, not on Thursday as planned.  I was to begin tests immediately.  I was no longer relaxed.  den Uchida told us that the procedure would be tomorrow

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.  I thought I had a couple of days to get used to the idea.  Within 5 minutes I was on a table in the next room with a rectal probe measuring my prostate.
